Our history

The Jack Stone Company was founded in 1934 by John A. Stone Sr., a fixture in the Washington, DC area. At the time Jack Stone was primarily involved in commercial electrical engineering and construction, largely for the US Navy. Shortly after WWII, Jack spun off a subsidiary called The Jack Stone Sign Company and began manufacturing on-premise displays

The sign company moved locations multiple times to accommodate growth though still remaining in what is now the Crystal City area of Arlington, VA. During the 1960’s, highway construction was accelerating which required signage to keep up with the pace. The final move within Arlington, VA was to a larger facility that could manufacture and store interstate signage. A decade later, the decision to strategically align itself with the newly constructed Capital beltway led to a final move to its current location, a then brand new 67,000 s.f. facility in Landover, MD.

Following this move, John Stone Sr. was succeeded by his son, John Stone Jr., who took on the role of general manager of the sign company. In 1978, The Jack Stone Sign Company was incorporated following the purchase of the controlling assets by the GM and president, John A. Stone Jr.

New opportunities as well as new challenges arrived during the 1970s. Competition increased which put pressure on the company to remain innovative and think laterally. One of the many successful endeavors during this period was the fabrication of kiosks, bus shelters and numerous specialty items for the new Metro Rail project.

After nearly four decades of dedicated service, John Stone Jr. released the day to day operations to his five sons and remains as Chairman. A third generation of Stones now practice the same standard of excellence for sign fabrication and service that Jack Stone Signs was built upon nearly 90 years ago.
